Miss Monikka Wintercrest

Physical Traits

A short and lean blood elf with light brown, long and slightly shiny hair. It appears that she often uses what remains of her magical ability to keep her hair in the vertical direction, unless it's squashed under a floppy hat. She has a serious face with pronounced wide eyes of a dim, dark shade of green. Several decades of cynicism have shaped her face into a constant frown, which she may only change on her command. Wintercrest has a large leather bag dyed purple, at one of her sides, and a dagger at the other.

Her tone is blisteringly deadpan; so much so that it is difficult to tell whether she's being sarcastic or not. (Note: She probably is.)

Occupation

She tells most she is a courier, but she'll grab any opportunities involving fighting.

Family

Though she never knew her parents (or even their names), Moni knows they were killed shortly after her birth.

Background

Monikka Wintercrest began life as Catadanetha (which was shortly bastardized into 'Cate'), with a happy family that died characteristically near her birth. Despite this, by her parents' wishes she grew up as an apprentice of magic, to be a naively romantic high elf who aided (or tried to aid) the forces of Quel'Thalas with frost magic. Not much is known of this period, apart from that.

Then the Sunwell was destroyed and she was "in a bad place" (in her own words), till fel magic was secured as a source. It was about that time that she realized she had to deal with her addiction, when she realized that the strongest of her spells were much slower than physical combat. (And thus choosing that over magic would be more convenient... if she'd managed to learn some healing spells alongside that. Which she didn't.) Wintercrest changed her name to the less flashy 'Monikka', usually introducing herself as 'Moni'.

She trained for a few years in the art of quick killing, and continued her practice against trolls, the Scourge, and trolls of the Scourge.

Then she ran out of money.

Stuck between a hard place and an elf named Alecath, she let him play with her mind in return for a home and soon she revealed her previous self. He proceeded to take advantage of her and brutally murder her sister. Realizing what had happened, she shrugged and said, "That figures."

And so, after a brief post as leader of a really incompetent assassin's guild, Wintercrest turned to freelancing, and for the time being, became a courier. She would occasionally lend a sword or two for the good of whoever offered a hefty sum.

The rest of her income would come from brutally exterminating several small cults; whichever she could get away with. (She was nearly born into a cult, albeit a fairly harmless one, which was why the family was so happy during a bit of ruin.)

After a couple of years of collecting severed hands, blackmailing half-brained Forsaken to assist her, and applying for experimental aversion therapy, Deathwing struck and managed to hit her home in the process, which instantly collapsed.

Murder - of both acceptable targets and otherwise.

Personal Notes

She will often have a Forsaken employed blackmailed to help her on her travels. She can be rather mean to them, and takes advantage of that capability.

If she has had a couple of drinks, expect her to open up a little more, especially when talking about her more violent hobbies.

Current Status

Moni currently lives in Silvermoon, between the two inns as she searches for a permanent home. The most recent unlucky Forsaken 'assistant' is Carissa Baumann, slightly more intelligent than her predecessors, but very naive.

Notes and Inspiration

Moni was my first proper RP character. I don't want to take Monikka too seriously background-wise, I'm just in it to see how she develops - and I can vent my pessimism in a productive way.

My explanation for my newbie-RP behavior is that after Cate took up her new name, she felt quite confused over how she should act, especially as she lost practice in more complex magic. So she came across as extremely stupid, jumping to conclusions and acting arrogant. These days she's keeping a better balance between arrogance and sarcasm.

Her personality was mostly inspired by Charlie Brooker, Bernard Black and Fran Katzenjammer. And more recently, GLaDOS.
