Background[]

Chaid's mother died giving birth to him, leaving her husband to raise their only child. In the beginning, his father did what he could to provide for the small family, but in the end, the loss of his wife grew too severe by him. When Chaid was send to school, he was also made to live in the orphanage, only hearing the occasional rumour about his father begging for coins on the street corners.

Nevertheless, young Chaid continued to defend his father when he heard people speak ill of him. As the other children in the orphanage grew tired of Chaid constantly declaring that his father didn't just mean to leave him their like the other children's parents, he became somewhat of an outcast. He would often get in fights, the adults at the orphanage doing their best to control him. It was then that Chaid began spitting insults at people. The theory was that if they would only get frustrated from being near him, they would leave him alone. It worked perfectly.

As he finished what little schooling he got, he was tossed from the orphanage to the Gnomeregan Army. Although he quickly learned that insulting the superiors was a bad idea, he didn't really care. The other privates were insulted just fine, and the superiors didn't want to socialize. As such, Chaid managed to make a living without letting anybody get close, despite the fact that his rank stayed the same.

Chaid kept in the army, occasionally making futile attempts at locating his long lost father. However, ashamed of himself, the father, now living as a beggar, made sure he was never discovered by his son.

It wasn't until the Orcs invaded that Chaid left Gnomeregan. It was here, when he served with the human army, that he met his only real friend: Pongram Spoongear, an older gnome who had moved to Goldshire and now fought to keep his family safe. After the rest of their squad was killed in the attack on Grand Hamlet, the two gnomes wandered north, hoping to find another squad to join. On their way, Pongram made Chaid promise to keep his family safe if anything were to happen to him. Chaid said that he should avenge his death instead. With a laugh, the older gnome suggested that Chaid could just do both.

Although they didn't part on good terms, Chaid never forgot Pongram. He eventually returned to Gnomeregan, continuing to make a living as a low-ranking part of the army. Still talking down to everybody, his situation changed little until the Throggs began invading.

Chaid did his best to keep the civilians from harm as the city was evacuated. However, by the end of the destruction, most of the Gnomish race had been killed. Chaid later received word that his father had been among the casualties, but he didn't care much at that point.

He spend the next few years wandering about the land, doing what jobs he could get but never being able to hold it for too long. He eventually decided to track down Pongram Spoongear, hoping that his old friend could at least help him find some sort of purpose.

When he got to Goldshire, he was informed that the entire Spoongear family had been killed in a fire. A single nightelf offered him a picture of the man who burned it down. As Chaid would later find out, the gnome on the picture was a mage named Stoen.

Having gotten a purpose, albeit not the way he had wished, Chaid spend over a year trying tracking Stoen down. Remembering his old promise of avenging Pongram's dead, he finally managed to find the young Gnome.

Although he didn't manage to kill him, Chaid learned that Stoen was the child of Pongram and realized that the old promise was impossible to fulfil. He couldn't both protect Pongram's family and avenge his death.

As such, Chaid began wandering Azeroth again, still seeking a purpose. His attempt to avenge his only friend had only gotten him a lot more enemies than he started with.

Personal Notes[]

Does his best to make people dislike him and has grown quite adept at it. Chaid follows his personal moral codecs, and it is a source of great annoyance for him when people don't understand it. Which few people do.

He also has little respect for magic. He views it as a weak way of combat, despite having gotten defeated by magic wielders on several occasions. He also looks down on Dwarves, viewing them as the cause of Gnomeregan's downfall.

Chaid has a tendency to attempt to deceive people to get what he wants, not wanting to ask for it directly. Although it has mixed results, he has grown better at it over time.

Current Status[]

Hired as a guard for Redemptio Coronae, and currently testing the anger limits of his new officers.
